HOW TO PREP FOR A PHOTO SESSION
You’ve booked a portrait session, we’ve coordinated a time and place for the photos, now what? Here are a few of my best tips to prepare for a session whether it is headshots, family, or couples photos.
As Soon As Possible
If you need a haircut, schedule it asap and aim for it to be at 1-3 weeks before your session.
Start thinking about outfit options. If picking outfits for multiple people, avoid exact matches and look for colors that compliment one another. I’m happy to look at any options in advance if you aren’t sure! Pinterest can be a great place to get outfit inspo!
Practice makeup and hair styling you might want for your session
One Week Before
Spend some time thinking about what you want your photos to say about you. Are you a small business owner who wants to present as polished and trustworthy? Are you taking couples photos and want to convey comfort and intimacy? If you take a little time before the session to tap into the emotion of it, I promise you won’t feel nearly as camera-shy!
Double check our scheduled time and location (but don’t worry, I’ll probably have sent you a confirmation email a few days before the session to ensure we are good to go!)
Drink lots of water! Glowy skin starts from the inside out! And it’s always good to drink more water
Stay out of the sun, or wear lots of sunscreen. No one wants to be sunburned in headshots
The Day Of
Iron your clothes! This goes a long way in making portraits look crisp
Keep drinking water! Eat a good meal!
Pack anything you need for mid-session touch-ups: outfit changes, alternative shoes, lipstick, hairbrush, handheld mirror, etc
Relax! I know being in front of the camera can feel nervous. Take a deep breath, and keep taking them. I’ve got you.
